The 10th anniversary edition of the New Richmond Bluegrass Festival promises to be a great one as some of bluegrass music’s top entertainers will be performing on the CIEU-FM stage for the event.
The Queen of bluegrass music, Rhonda Vincent and “the Rage” will appear on the CIEU-FM stage on Friday. The Kirksville, Missouri native has won numerous awards including International Bluegrass Music Awards (IBMAs) as “Entertainer of the Year” in 2001 and “Female Vocalist of the Year” seven consecutive years (2000-2006).
Nashville’s Lonesome River Band has been one of the most respected bands in bluegrass music for over 30 years and although the band members have changed over the years, LRB remains as popular as ever. They will be performing in New Richmond on Friday and Saturday.
Another new addition to the festival will be the Roys. This brother and sister-led band is from Nashville, but they have roots in New Brunswick having spent some of their childhood years in Coal Branch. Fans will be hearing a lot more about the Roys in 2012 as they have signed a deal to host a weekly TV variety show and are considered to be among the most promising country/bluegrass acts for the upcoming year. The Roys will appear on Thursday and Friday.
The Bluegrass Diamonds (New Brunswick), the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band (Nashville), Ray Legere & Acoustic Horizon (New Brunswick) and Janet McGarry & Wildwood will all be back to help celebrate our tenth anniversary and more bands will be added in upcoming weeks.
The Coors Light stage will once again feature some of the Gaspé coast’s best country, bluegrass and traditional music performers bringing a regional flavour to the festival. The Clemville Kids and Pamela Rooney & the Exception, both very popular at past editions, will be returning and more bands will be added soon.
The historic Almond Art Center located in the Gaspesian British Heritage Village will host bluegrass bands and jams from Sunday to Wednesday evenings. Performers will be announced soon.
