BAND LINEUP ANNOUNCED
Two time International Bluegrass
Music Association (IBMA) award
winner Michael Cleveland &
Flamekeeper will join Ray Legere &
Acoustic Horizon, the Doerfel
Family and Blue Horizon to headline
this year’s New Richmond Bluegrass
Festival.
Named Instrumental Group of the Year in 2007 and again in
2008, Kentucky based Flamekeeper has performed at such world famous venues as the Grand Ole Opry in
Nashville. Despite being blind, Michael Cleveland is known as one of bluegrass music’s top fiddle players and
has played alongside the likes of Alison Kraus, Rhonda Vincent, Doc Watson and others.
Also appearing in 2009 will be the Doerfels, a family bluegrass band from New York. The band is comprised of
five of the Doerfel siblings, TJ who is 20 years old, Kimberly who is 18, Eddy who is 16, and Joey who is 14 and
Ben, 13. They are sometimes joined on stage by 11 year old Kurt, 9 year old Garrett and Tommy who is seven.
The tenth family member, 17 year old Bobby does not play with the band. The group, who is currently touring the
US, will be appearing in New Richmond for the first time.
Once again in 2009, Ray Legere and Acoustic Horizon will be back to entertain music fans. Ray, who performs
with Bowfire in the winter months, has a reputation as being one of Canada’s top fiddle and mandolin players is
joined on stage by Gaspé native, Frank Doody. The band is among favourites with the New Richmond crowd.
Blue Horizon, another favourite with crowds at the festival with their youthful and upbeat sound will return to New
Richmond for the third time. The band from Nova Scotia who have been nominated for an East Coast Music
Award (ECMA), not only wow the crowds while on stage, but also join in the jams after the stage show is over.
Also returning this year will be New Brunswick bands Timberland Express and the Douthwrights who will be
returning to New Richmond after a two year absence. Shady Lane and Wayne Brown & Friends will be
representing Nova Scotia and Campbellton based Silver Fox, the festival’s host band will be back for their
seventh appearance at the festival.
